Bill

When our dog Bill was diagnosed with intestinal cancer last summer I realized, once again, how important it is to document your memories. From working non stop during the summer, I rarely broke out my camera for my own family. I decided to change that and have not only been taking photos of my little family but have started doing more personal photography work for ME. It is a great feeling and I look forward to executing some of my ideas this year.

One of the things we decided to do more is shoot film on Super 8. After Bill’s surgery, we had no idea how long we’d have him for so we filmed our family as much as possible during the busy wedding season. The film you see below was shot on one of my favorite days of 2010. We had been through a lot 2 weeks prior with Bill’s surgery and recovery and was looking forward to one day with our family minus cell phones, T.V’s and computers. My parents live on lake and while they were away on vacation, we borrowed their house for an afternoon and evening for swimming, boating, walking around the lake, steak dinner and a relaxing fire. It was the perfect day and I’m so happy we captured it on film.

Some of you may be thinking “well it’s only a dog” BUT like many dog owners, we feel our dogs are members of the family and are practically our kids. We would do anything for them and our willingness to get Bill the treatment he needed paid off. Bill is now fully recovered and finished his last round of chemo in October. My husband Jonathan of Don’t Shout Films put this video together for us.

Nothing is more important than your family!
